Prof. Dr. Thomas Welskopp is Professor of History with special consideration of the History of Modern Societies at Bielefeld University, Germany.

His research interests include the history of Labour and the Labour Movement; social movements and political culture; industrial history; history of capitalism and media; theory in and history of historiography.

Recent publications are Unternehmen Praxisgeschichte. Historische Perspektiven auf Kapitalismus, Arbeit und Klassengesellschaft (Tübingen: Mohr Siebeck 2014) and ‘Kapitalismus und Konzepte von Arbeit. Wie systemisch zentral ist “freie Lohnarbeit” für den Kapitalismus?’, in: Geschichte und Gesellschaft 43 (2017) p. 197-216.

He is currently directing the research project “Doing Comparisons while Competing: The German, British, American, and French Iron and Steel Industries, 1870–1990”.
